Truth has become less important in today’s society due to the rise of Moral Relativity. Moral relativism is the idea that there is no universal or absolute set of moral principles or truths. It’s a version of morality that advocates “to each her own,” and those who follow it say, “Who am I to judge?”. Under this belief whatever you feel is right is right for you. There is no right or wrong for society, just what is right or wrong in your mind. The El Paso shooter believed people were like a virus on Earth and he needed to get rid of a bunch of them. In moral relativism, that thinking is neither right nor wrong, it is only right or wrong to the shooter. When I was in school it was a shameful thing to get caught cheating. Now students “high five” each other for cheating.
Historically, Truth has come from God. Until we get back to that standard, society will not improve. In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis talks about a “law of human nature”, a “rule about right and wrong,” which, Lewis maintained, is commonly available and known to all human beings. He believed that God built that into all of us.
